Owls are really on a par with foxes when it comes to popularity in homeware – and we believe that if *you* could rotate your neck 360 degrees, *you’d* be worthy of finding your face on a mug or two! With that in mind, we’ve sought out our fifteen favourite owl-based home items…all currently available to add to your collection.
Owl Towels in Papaya Orange – £4-28, Orla Kiely
We begin with another gorgeous design from Orla Kiely, which manages to be striking yet look distinctly owl-like at the same time. These owl-themed towels from Orla Kiely feature a repetitive graphic pattern and are made from 100% woven cotton. Available as face cloths, hand towels, bath towels and bath sheets, in prices ranging from £4 to £28 respectively, they’re also available in light grey and marine blue shades – but we favour this bright papaya orange colour.
Owl Salt & Pepper Shaker – £9.69, the DRH Collection
Wonderfully curvy, these gold and platinum owl-shaped salt and pepper shakers dispense – as you would expect – their condiments through holes at the top of their skulls that have been positioned there in a completely humane trepanation process. The metallic finishes on this porcelain pair are created via electroplating, finished off with a high-quality glaze for a superb shine. They’re gift boxed so would make a perfect present for someone special.
Owl Door Knocker – £11.99, Fallen Fruits
Leave visitors to your home in no doubt as to your avian loyalties from the very first minute they encounter you and mount this owl door knocker from Fallen Fruits at the front of your house. It’s made from cast iron that’s been given a distressed rustic weathered effect finish so it looks naturally aged and will do a really good job at delivering the thundering sort of bang some of us need to get to the door in time.
This one’s a beauty – ever so cute, this owl-shaped ceramic table lamp base has a minimalist shape and is made from ceramic finished in a shiny, cream-coloured glaze. The energy efficient piece has a simple matching light shade and is suitable for halogen or LED bulbs of 40 watts (not included). Currently available at almost a tenner off it’s original price, this 37.5cm-high lamp is a bit of a bargain.
Malou Owl Hook – £12, AM.PM.
Useful wall fixtures and fittings can be somewhat pedestrian affairs, but the Malou owl-shaped hook by AM.PM. is here to put things straight. Made from cast aluminium coated in matt epoxy paint, it features a raised owl design and is also available in grey as well as in this rather nice duck egg blue. It’s part of a range of similarly-sized (16cm high by 6cm wide) hooks made in the shape of classically-sculpted animals, including a rabbit, a fox and a stag.

Grandma Wild’s Ceramic Barn Owl Cookie Jar Barrel with Mini Choc Chip Biscuits – £19.99, Very.co.uk
Barney the brown owl has been immortalised in this fantastic cookie jar (or biscuit barrel, if you’re a traditionalist) and will make a fantastic addition to your kitchen. He’s made from white ceramic painted in shades of brown, grey, yellow and black but, even better, his head lifts to reveal 300g of diminutive yet delicious chocolate chip biscuits – so he’ll make a perfect gift for an owl or biscuit-loving friend!
Back to minimalism now with the rather arty and neutral white finish of this owl vase from Kare design. This elegant piece has been made from dolomite with a brilliant white and high-gloss finish. At 34cm high and 17.7cm wide (14.5cm deep), this will make a great addition to your mantelpiece and is a tasteful way to display bouquets of even simple flowers or branches from the garden.
Pair of Ceramic Aubergine Owl T-Light Holders – £49, Nordal
Add a bit of cheer to your home, your garden, or maybe both – since these ceramic tea-light holders from Nordal come as a set of two! Measuring 18cm in diameter and 21cm high, the holders let light out through the gaps in the feathers that form the lattice-like front, whereas tealights are easily inserted via the back. This handsome pair is available in grey or light blue as well as in the aubergine (sort of purpley!) colour pictured here.
Oural blue ceramic owl figurine – £5.99, Maisons du Monde
We love the minimalist shape of this rather petite (8cm high and deep by 6cm wide) Oural owl figurine from Maisons du Monde. This charming ceramic piece is finished here in a duck egg blue glaze, though a version is also available in cream.

A veritable steal at over twenty pounds off its original price tag, this 12-piece breakfast set is made from bone china and it features two different owl designs, in green and dark blue on a white background. You’ll find four side plates, cereal bowls and egg cups in this dishwasher-safe set. If you want to take the theme further, matching mugs as well as storage canisters are available in the same designs.
Owl Kitchen Roll Holder – £1.99 (was £19.99)
We end with the biggest bargain of all – the rather enigmatic (or shadowy) owl kitchen roll holder. This novelty paper dispenser is 30cm high and 15cm in diameter and is made from MDF painted in black and white. A distinctive piece for your kitchen workshop, this fine fellow (or lass) is the tiniest fraction of its original price, so act quickly if you want to get your hands on him (or her)!
